Family Day at the Museum of Yugoslavia
Part of the exhibition: .
Every first Sunday of the month, from February 4, 2018, in the period from from 10:00 to 14:00, the Museum of Yugoslavia will become a place where children are the most important visitors. When the children show up at the entrance of the Museum, they will be welcomed by sellers, addressed in person, and asked to take a role of secret detectives in order to solve an assigned mission at the exhibition Laboratory of the Museum of Yugoslavia, where they will be greeted by a curator and given some further instructions.
Admission is free for all participants who can join the program at any time between 10:00 and 14:00 hours, and the program lasts for as long as necessary for participants to complete the game. The program is in Serbian language.
The exhibition Laboratoy of the Museum is simply made for children to play, because it shows the cross-section of the Museum of Yugoslavia’s fund, which consists mainly of the gifts that Josip Broz Tito received during his life. Since the gifts are extremely diverse in form, country of origin, and the period they belong, going through this exhibition for the youngest visitors is conceived as a journey around the world in the form of a detective game. Solving one track at a time, the children move through the exhibition traveling from one continent to another, from one period of time to another, learning through the exhibits about historical events and figures, remote cultures, local customs, as well as about museums themselves. Finally, the map leads them to the target destination – where there is a prize for each participant.
The program is designed for active participation of children and their companions, by giving children instructions on how to involve adults in the game, and at the same time, how to take into account the fact that they are in a museum and that they should behave appropriately. In this way, children quickly adopt a code of conduct in an institution of culture, feeling that they are very important and responsible.
