Opening of “Leto u MuzeYU” – Rambo Amadeus Concert

The Museum of Yugoslavia is inviting you to celebrate the Youth Day with a concert by Rambo Amadeus. The program takes place on May 25 at 7 p.m. at the fountain on the plateau in front of the Museum and represents the official start of this year’s exciting project LETO U MUZEYU 2022. Admission is free.

It is hard to imagine celebrating the Youth Day without a strong figure with a cult of personality. This time the figure is not, as it would be expected, Marshal and Comrade Tito, but Rambo Amadeus, “Kilo and Eco Tzar”. Since his first appearance, first albums, to his performances and activism, the artistic work of Rambo Amadeus has been an artistic chronicle of the dissolution of the SFRY and its heritage. His ironic play with his own cult of personality warns us and reminds us of the seductive character of dictatorship and the abuse of authority in the present time.

Today, the main area of interest of Rambo Amadeus, in addition to music and sailing, is a complex environmental issue. Therefore, his activism is mostly focused on this topic. At the Concert on May 25, he will try to reconsider these very topics, and what is a better place for that, than the Museum of Yugoslavia. Come and take part in a new reading of history, currently highlighted by completely new contexts and circumstances in the world.

Rambo Amadeus is one of the most prominent figures, a cult figure on the Yugoslav music scene. A composer, lyricist, guitarist, performer, sailor and eco activist. And a tzar. His songs describe reality from a special, satirical angle, skilfully revealing the absurdities of the modern world and laconically exposing them to the colourful spotlights of the stage. His music is a free assortment of all musical styles, where music theory and criticism are entangled in a “Gordian knot”. He invented the term “turbo folk”. At concerts, he never reproduces accurately studio versions of songs, but improvises, using a lot of humour, both while talking to the audience and expressing the music itself. It often happens that he starts playing one song, and finishes with a completely different one, excusing himself for being forgetful. The masterful “forgetfulness” might be the reason why his concerts are remembered for a long time.
